Heady, wild and pure fun, the Gold Coast is Australia's very own whiff of Las Vegas. This commercial overload doesn't appeal to everyone, but the Gold Coast receives more than two million visitors every year. Most are drawn by the surf, sun and fun, but there is also a spectacular hinterland less than 19 miles (30km) from the beach. The Gold Coast also has some excellent surfing breaks, particularly at Burleigh Heads, Kirra and Duranbah.
