Peacefully situated in the far east of the island, close to Sitia, and perfectly placed for exploring the wonders of far-eastern Crete, Eo Villas are ideal for couples or small families. Approached through a gentle landscape of hills, olive groves and vineyards typical of this quiet part of the island, Eo is half-hidden in its own large, flower-filled gardens, palms and olive trees.
Eo’s four single-storey terraced villas have simple but comfortable interiors with an appealingly rustic feel. Two shaded balconies enable guests to enjoy morning and evening sun and there is a kitchen area for those who choose to eat at home. Towards the back of the gardens is a delightfully large swimming pool for the use of all guests, plus a small children’s play area and a barbecue. Anna, the Athenian owner, keeps one of the villas for her own use, and is often available to give helpful advice.
Handsome Sitia is one of Crete’s lesser known areas. Dominated by its picturesque old quarter with cafés and restaurants along the pretty harbour, Sitia has yet to feel the impact of serious tourism, although it does have all the facilities you may need. For the energetic, there is a Venetian fortress above the port and steep cobbled streets lead into a honeycomb of back lanes. To the east of the harbour there is the bonus of a spotless shingle beach and further east towards Palekastro are miles of gloriously deserted beaches while inland, tiny traditional villages are well worth exploring.
