Aube is a department in the northeastern part of France named after the Aube River. Aube is perhaps best known for the 1932 visit of Ataturk, who signed a friendship treaty with France there. The geography, with its chalky soil and undulating plain, is well adapted to wine-growing, particularly the champagne that takes its name from the region.
