FRESCOES OF AKROTIRI, SANTORINI
Akrotiri is a village on the southern coast of the Greek island Santorini. It is best known for the excavations of a bronze age town close to today's village. The excavations are remarkable for the houses were preserved with their colourful frescos by the eruption of an volcano about 1630 BC.
Most of the frescoes from Akrotiri are now on display in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens.
