Getting to Lesvos

First things first... where is Lesvos?

GOOD QUESTION...

Check the map to see where we're located.

FAIR ENOUGH... but how do you get here? Well, to put it bluntly, there are two ways to travel to Lesvos. You can come with a Boat or a Plane.

You can travel directly to the island of Lesvos by plane from a number of European countries and cities by 'charter flight'.

You can also travel to Lesvos and other Greek islands as well as mainland Greece by plane.

You can travel to Lesvos and other Greek islands by ship. Sappho Travel have been agents for N.E.L. (the main ferry company servicing the island of Lesvos) for the last six years and our on-line system provides us with up to the minute information on the daily and weekly sailings between the islands and mainland Greece. Having said that Greece is notoriously slow to release details and licenses to the increasing number of ferry companies which service the islands.

You may discover that specific route and fare information is not available at the time of request, if this is the case, we will advise you as to when this information is expected. Ferries to Lesvos

There is an extensive Ferry service to Lesvos and other islands run by N.E.L. Ferries run from the mainland Greek ports of Piraeus and Rafina, and from other mainland destinations and islands. If traveling to Lesvos, most Ferries arrive at the harbour of Mytilini located to the East of the island. There is also a service to the smaller and lesser known port of Sigri which lies just 26km West of Skala Eressos.

Ferries to Lesvos The Ferry's which criss-cross the ocean throughout Greece and her islands vary in facilities, luxury and speed, and the fares differ accordingly. You have various options to choose from depending on your budget and your needs. Journey times also vary. If you are taking an overnight ferry it is worth considering booking a cabin for the journey. The different types of Cabins available are listed below.

LUXURY CLASS - Superbly fitted cabins with double bed & en-suite bathroom, fridge, television, telephone etc. On some ships there are also triple cabins available. This is surely the best and most luxurious way to travel the seas. These cabins are always located at the highest point of the ship... except for the bridge of course.

FIRST CLASS - There are four types of 1st class cabin. Single, Double, Triple & Quad (depending upon ship). All cabins have private bathroom, fridge and window. On certain ships there are also 1st class cabins available without window at a reduced price. First class cabins are located on the upper decks.

AB CLASS - These cabins known as AB's offer a good standard of accommodation between First & Second class and usually have a private bathroom and window depending on the ship. Most AB's have four bunk beds. On occasion it is possible to find a twin bedded cabin. AB's are located on the middle decks. Please note: There are very very few two birth AB cabins available and it would be wise to have a second option just in case! If you require a whole cabin to yourself and there are only quad cabins available you will be asked to pay 50% of each empty birth.

SECOND CLASS - The cheapest cabin available. Most are on the lower decks, do not have a window and no private bathroom.

DECK - Best for those on a tight budget! A deck ticket allows you access to all of the common facilities on the ship and a numbered seat which you can end up sharing with numerous others! If you don't mind missing out on a few hours sleep it's well worth the experience... sleeping bags are welcome at no extra charge!

You can make your reservation for any ticket DIRECTLY with us now! We will check the dates, times and availability of your preferred passage and advise you of price. Tickets are issued from our office and sent to you by first class registered post. There is a small additional fee for this service.
