Santorini Sight-seeing
Visit ancient Thira (or Thera) and Akrotiri, the Minoan city preserved in ash from the explosion, which is an active dig site.
For a unique experience, take a trip to the volcanic islets of Nea Kameni and Palaia Kameni to see the volcano crater. Wear suitable shoes because he ground is warm. The trip takes ten minutes by caique from the Skala ton Firon.
A longer day-trip takes you from the port to Aspronisi, and Thirasia, both once part of the original island, and to romantic Oia on the tip of Santorini.
Some of the trips offer an excursion to the hot springs of Palea Kameni, but be forewarned that this involves a swim of about 400 metres.
In August, the commercial wineries hold tastings and there is a folklore festival at Canava Roussos Winery near Kamari.
