SINGAPORE BOTANIC GARDENS
Singapore Botanic Gardens is a 52 hectare botanical garden in Singapore that includes the National Orchid Garden which has a collection of more than 3000 species of orchids.
It also has a mini rainforest trail, and a spice garden. It is located along Cluny Road and stretches between Napier Road and Bukit Timah Road.
The place has two lakes one is the Symphony Lake and Swan Lake. The Symphony Lake has free concerts played by the Singapore Symphony Orchestra every Sunday.
Founded in its present location in 1859, the beautifully landscaped setting with rolling lawns and lakes is popular as a picnic area for locals and tourists alike.
The Gardens is home to the headquarters of the National Parks Board and there is a French restaurant in a colonial bungalow. There is also a cafe at the visitors centre and a restaurant at the Ginger Garden.
Singapore Botanic Gardens is undergoing a major refurbishment and that includes a basement carpark and the redevelopment of the Tanglin Core of the gardens.
There will also be a Jacob Ballas Children's Garden, to be completed in the first half of 2006.
